Mr. James Claude "Jimmy" Benson of Cumming passed away Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008. He was born Jan. 23, 1954, the son of George and Betty Benson of Cumming. Mr. Benson was a member of Ebenezer Methodist Church in Forsyth County. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Billy Mashburn.
Jimmy was a graduate of Forsyth County High School, a graduate of Gupton-Jones Mortuary College in 1976, and a local entrepreneur. He founded Benson's Cumming Pawn Shop in 1977 and operated the business with his wife, Vicki.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years, Vicki Mashburn Benson; daughter, Elizabeth (Beth) Benson; parents, George and Betty Benson; brother and sister-in-law, Steven and Patsy Benson, Ben and Ronda Benson; sister and brother-in-law, Gayle and George Funes; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Paul and Missy Mashburn; brother-in-law, Mark Mashburn; various nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 2, at 2 p.m. in the Ingram Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Terry Phillips and Rev. Ruel Martin officiating. Interment will follow at Sawnee View Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday, Dec. 1, from 4-9 p.m. and Tuesday, Dec. 2, from 11 a.m. until time of service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Ebenezer Methodist Church, 4860 Brown's Bridge Road, Cumming, GA 30041.
