James Moran, age 75, passed away Friday, Nov. 25, 2016, at his home in Cumming. He transitioned peacefully, surrounded by his loving family. Born on July 20, 1941, in Queens, N.Y., to William Moran and Marie Schneider Moran, James grew up in Long Eddy, N.Y. He attended Delaware Valley Central high school in Callicoon, N.Y., where he graduated in 1959.
After high school he attended college at Cortland State University in Cortland, N.Y., where he received a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education.
Upon earning his college degree he was commissioned into the United States Air Force in 1963. He served for seven years, during which he conducted a tour in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged as a Captain in 1969.
Immediately following military service he began his career with the Mobil Oil Corporation where he remained for 30 plus years. In 2003 upon retirement, he and his family relocated to Cumming, from Southbury, Conn., where they had lived for 26 years. He then enjoyed his employment as a bus driver for the Forsyth County Schools for several years.
James married Constance (Peake) Moran in 1962, at Holy Cross Church in Callicoon, N.Y. They were happily married for 54 years. James was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church, and a professed member of the Fraternity of Stigmata of St. Francis.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Marie. James is survived by his spouse, Constance of Cumming; older brother, William Moran of Hortonville, N.Y.; five children, Maria (Trompetta) of New Fairfield, Conn., James of Bothell, Wash., Sheila (Mortara) of Danbury, Conn., Jeffrey, Ryan both of Cumming; and his 10 grandchildren.
Memorial service will be held at Good Shepherd Catholic Church on Wednesday, Nov. 30, from 5:30-7:30 p.m., followed by a funeral mass at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, on Dec. 1, at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow the funeral mass at the Georgia National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m., located at 1080 Scott Hudgens Drive, Canton, GA 30114.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorial donations be made to Halcyon Hospice.
