James W. "J.W." Amos, age 79, of Murphy, N.C., passed away Friday, Aug. 1, 2008, at his residence.
Mr. Amos was a native of Gordon County. He was the son of the late Harvey J. and Mamie Jo Potts Amos. J. W. was the owner and operator of Amos Well Pump and Septic Tank Service. He was a WWII U.S. Army veteran Paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division. He was a member of Violet Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Billy Amos and Kenneth Amos; two sisters, Virginia Amos Walker and Ruby Amos Chapman.
He is survived by his wife, Johnnie B. Amos; four sons, Ralph J. Amos and his wife Catherine, Johnny W. Amos and his wife Holli, Bobby J. Amos and his wife Stacy, Billy J. Amos and his wife Jeannie, all of Cumming; one brother, Walter "Shorty" Amos and his wife Dorothy of Woodstock; one sister, Lillie Faye Smith of Woodstock; eight grandchildren, Slate, Jarrod, Ryan, Allison, Jordan, Taylor, Madalyn and Trevor Amos; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at noon Monday, Aug. 4, at Ingram Funeral Home Chapel in Cumming with Pastor Chris Mathis of Murphy, N.C., and Pastor Robbie Mathis of Cumming officiating. Burial followed in Greenlawn Cemetery in Roswell. Pallbearers were the grandsons and nephews. Honorary Pallbearers were the granddaughters and grandson.
