Jesse Howard Entrekin, 86, passed away Saturday, May 3, 2014. Mr. Entrekin was born Feb. 20, 1928, in Forsyth, the son of the late Howard and Clara Entrekin.
Mr. Entrekin was educated in Macon and also attended Mercer University. He was a member of the former Bethesda Baptist Church. Mr. Entrekin was a Mason, where he was an active member of the Blue Lodge, the Scottish Rite, the Al Sihah Shrine Temple for more than 50 years, the Patrol Unit of the Shrine, Jesters in the Shrine, and served on Aid Corp.
Mr. Entrekin was active in Shrine activities such as fundraisers for the Crippled Children's Hospital and the Children's Hospital burn unit in Greenville, S.C., annual circus, and charity events.
Mr. Entrekin loved playing and watching sports. Hunting, fishing, NASCAR, college and professional football, and baseball were his favorites.
He was a running back for the Lanier High School football team and was an outfielder in baseball. He continued baseball after high school graduation in an amateur league, and played some church softball.
Mr. Entrekin lived in Macon most of his life until he sold his home and moved to his Lake Sinclair home in Eatonton in 2010. He moved to Dogwood Assisted Living in Cumming in September 2013 to be closer to his daughter, Deborah.
He had worked since he was in school, and after graduation worked at a grocery store, in the cotton mills, and learned to be a butcher. He later owned his own grocery store, and retired from GA Kraft after 36 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years (until her death in May 2013), Vivian Mae Jones Entrekin; his son, Mark Entrekin; his brothers, Lonnie and Preston Entrekin; and his sister, Clara Entrekin Smith.
Mr. Entrekin is survived by his children, Larry (Linda) Entrekin of Milledgeville and Deborah Entrekin (Matt) Whitehair of Cumming.
A Celebration of his Life will be held Wednesday, May 7, at 2 p.m. at Snow's Memorial Chapel, Pio Nono Avenue with Masonic Rites performed by Central Georgia Masonic Memorial Association. Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. Dr. Jay Hodges will officiate. The family will greet friends at the funeral home Tuesday, May 6, from 5-7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Shrine Transportation Fund, 222 Mecca Drive, Macon, GA 31206.
