John Barry Becker, 73, of Alpharetta passed away Saturday, May 2, 2009, at North Fulton Regional Hospital in Roswell.
He was raised in Vermilion, Ohio, where he graduated from Vermilion High School in 1953. Barry was a former employee of Wakefield Lighting in Vermilion, and Nordson Corporation in Amherst, Ohio. He was retired from Valspar Corporation. Barry also served as the Clerk of City Council in Vermilion, Ohio, and was the president of the VHS Band Boosters. He also served as a member of the St. Mary's School Board. He helped start the Vermilion Little League in the 1950's, and remained a lifelong baseball fan. Barry was a volunteer at Northside Hospital Forsyth in Cumming and worked at Enterprise Car Rental in Roswell. He was a member of St. Brendan's Catholic Church in Cumming and Curcillo of Atlanta.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Geraldine (Robinson) and Nelson Becker.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Rae (Squires) Becker of Alpharetta; daughters, Pamela (Becker) Dean of Chicago, Ill., Jenifer Becker of Chicago, Ill., Rae Dene (Becker) Norton of Boston, Mass.; son, Scott Becker of Florence, Ky.; grandchildren, Michael and Josh; brother, Lee Becker of Vermilion, Ohio.
A memorial mass will be held Tuesday, May 5, at 2 p.m. at St. Brendan's Catholic Church in Cumming. The family will receive friends on Monday, May 4, from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in memory of Barry to Vitas Hospice, 400 Atlanta Technology Center, Suite 470, Atlanta, GA 30318.
