John Francis Morton, 81, of Cumming went to be with his Heavenly Father May 13, 2013. Johnny lived most of his life in Bristol, Tenn., where he was a long-time member of Central Christian Church. A graduate of East Tennessee State College, he was the owner of Morton's Grocery and retired from Tenneva Foods.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Spradlyn Morton; children, Susan Leonard, John Morton, Sarah LaPlaca; grandchildren, Corey Leonard, J.R. Morton, Daniel Morton, Christina LaPlaca; sons-in-law, Mark Leonard, Chris LaPlaca; daughter-in-law, Donna Morton.
Memorial services will be held Friday, May 17, at 3 p.m. at Cumming First United Methodist Church in Cumming, where Johnny was a member. The family will receive friends at the church from 2-3 p.m. the day of the service. Interment will follow at Mountain Home National Cemetery in Mountain Home, Tenn.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the Betty Morton Scholarship to support Journalism Scholarships at Bristol Virginia High School and mailed to The Betty Morton "Scholarship Account," c/o Suntrust Bank, 503 Lakeland Plaza, Cumming, GA 30040, account ending in 2434.
