Ret. Lt. Col. John Massey Hagood Jr., USAF, 78, of Cumming passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2013. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nina Hagood, in 2012.
Lt. Col. Hagood served 22 years with distinction in the USAF as a fighter, test, and interceptor pilot. He earned five distinguished flying crosses for his actions in Vietnam. While stationed at Hahn AFB Germany, he commanded the 10th Tactical Fighter Squadron.
After retirement, Mr. Hagood moved back to Georgia with his family and enjoyed shooting, gunsmithing, sailing, and political correspondence. As a proud veteran, he was committed to the principles of duty, freedom, and liberty.
He is survived by his daughter, April Woodard of Atlanta; daughter, Julia Hagood of Cumming; son and daughter-in-law, John and Rhonda Hagood of Norcross; grandson, James King of Roswell.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 4, at 11 a.m. at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton.
