Joseph Hiram Gilbreth Jr., age 84, of Cumming passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2012. Born May 15, 1927, to a military family, he graduated 10th in his class from The U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1949 and served in Korea.
Joseph was an engineer with Bell Laboratories for 30 years in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Alabama. He was an active member of the West Point Association of Graduates and enjoyed music, computers, books, current events, and the study of spirituality. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Jean Herriott Gilbreth.
He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara Gilbreth Rossow and Raleigh Rossow of Charlotte, N.C., Catherine Anne Gilbreth of Cumming, Caroline Gilbreth Holley and Steven Holley of Dawsonville; stepchildren and spouses, Bradford Carl Metzler and Judi Metzler of China, Beverly Metzler Tifft and Stephen Tifft of Lancaster, Pa., Craig Howard Metzler and Linda Metzler of Diablo, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 14, at 2 p.m. at Ingram Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Sawnee View Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Ingram Funeral Home Monday from 12:30 p.m. until hour of service.
