Joyce Day, 77, of Fitzgerald passed away Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, at Phoebe Putney Hospital in Albany.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 14, at 2 p.m. at Ingram Funeral Home Chapel in Cumming with the Rev. Joey Heard and Terry Samples officiating. Interment will follow in Sawnee View Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be at Ingram Funeral Home in Cumming on Monday, Oct. 13, from 7-9 p.m.
Mrs. Day was born Oct. 18, 1930, in Forsyth County to the late Cilvie and Mentie Pirkle Samples. She was a 1948 graduate of Forsyth County High School. A retired real estate broker, she moved to Fitzgerald in 1980 from Morrow. She worked with Roanoke Realty for many years. Mrs. Day also was a licensed cosmetologist and a school bus driver for Ben Hill and Clayton counties. She was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Vickie Day Smith of Fitzgerald; sons, Jackie (Wanda) Day of Fitzgerald, Brandon (Lauren) Day of Macon; grandchildren, Jacqueline Hutchinson, Leslie Day, Priscilla Day, Stephanie Adams, Missy Day; one great-granddaughter; three great-grandsons; brother, Buddy Samples of Gainesville; sisters, Ruth Green of Cumming, Ethelena Smith of Buford.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Thomas Day; son-in-law, David Smith; two brothers; and three sisters.
