Karolynn Ann Ruppert of Cumming was born Karolynn Ann Brown on July 7, 1952, in Portland, Ore., and married Richard Craig Ruppert on Aug. 30, 1975, after having met in Arak, Iran, two years earlier. Karolynn was from Oregon and Richard (Dick) was from New Jersey and they always referred to having met on "neutral ground" on the other side of the planet in Iran. After her marriage, she lived in Algeria, Saudi Arabia, and Nigeria for numerous years and had the opportunity to travel extensively with trips to Greece, Egypt, Kenya, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, England, Germany, Austria, Mexico, Canada, Hong Kong and Thailand where she enjoyed visiting ancient historical sites.
She died suddenly on the evening of Jan. 3, 2015, of a heart attack. Karolynn is survived by her husband, Dick; and sons, Russell, Mark, Scott, and Adam; her live–in friend, Tracy McDonald; and mother, JoAnne Brown of Gresham, Ore. She was a graduate of Gresham High School in Oregon and attended Multnomah Community College. Karolynn was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, an Endowment Member of the National Rifle Association, and in prior years enjoyed and competed in Gwinnett Practical Shooting League matches for many years. While primarily a homemaker, in recent years she had been a Licensed Insurance Agent with World Financial Group, a licensed HAM radio operator, became CERT certified in her county of residence and most recently was a part time Lyft driver. She was a gifted craftswoman, seamstress and cook, and made items of a higher quality than you could find in stores. It was something that she liked to do and she did it well. While living overseas in Saudi Arabia and Nigeria, she supplied a good portion of the expatriate community with children's birthday cakes that rivaled professionals. She touched many lives and will be sorely missed by all.
Services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Chapel located at 510 Brannon Road, Cumming, GA 30041 at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 13, following with graveside services at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton at 2 p.m. Flowers or family donations can be sent to the Brannon Road address
