Dr. Lois R. Ferm, 91, of Black Mountain, N.C., went to be with the Lord on Nov. 29, 2009. Born in Buffalo, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Laurence and Bertha Roughan. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Robert O. Ferm; and son-in-law, Mitch Mitchell.
Lois received her BA from Houghton College, her MA from the University of Michigan and her PhD from the University of Minnesota. Working with her husband, she was a pastor's wife, college dean's wife and the wife of a Billy Graham Team member. In her own right, she was a high school teacher, librarian, college faculty member and at the time of retirement, age 87, personal assistant to Billy Graham. In her role as coordinator of resources, Dr. Ferm was instrumental in establishing the archives and oral history program at the Billy Graham Library at Wheaton College in Wheaton, Ill.
She is survived by her daughters, Esther Mitchell of Cumming, Becky (Bill) Dodson of Maryville, Tenn.; sons, Paul (Mel) Ferm of Cumming, Steve (Judy) Ferm of Winder; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Lois' life will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 6, at First Baptist Church of Swannanoa in North Carolina, followed by a reception in the Family Life Center.
