Luna Lewis Kelly, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, of Cumming peacefully passed away Sept. 15, of 2013. Luna was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, E.K. (Ken) Kelly. Luna was born in McCall Creek, Miss., Jan. 20, 1919. She was an incredibly beautiful and strong woman who showered everyone she met with love and kindness.
Growing up, Luna was an identical twin and the 11th of 12 children on a rural farm in southern Mississippi, where she learned the value of hard work, integrity and compassion. Luna later attended college on a basketball scholarship and after college began her career working for Southern Bell.
While at Southern Bell, she met her husband and they started their family in Jackson, Miss. Shortly thereafter, they moved the family to Atlanta where she proudly raised her three children.
Once her children were grown, Luna returned to work at Southern Bell and later retired after a successful 20-year career. She always loved spending time with her grandchildren and showered them with care, guidance, love and affection.
Luna also always enjoyed playing cards and was an avid bridge player. She loved to read, watch the Braves and cook for anyone with an appetite. Her sweet, generous and loving nature was to always take care of others first. Luna was an unbelievable woman and she will truly be missed.
Luna is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Steve Sr. and Jane Kelly of Alpharetta; daughter, Janet Kelly of Bethlehem; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Dan Palermo of Roswell; grandsons, Steve Kelly Jr. and wife Amy, Michael Remick and wife Jessica, Tyler Kelly, and Aaron Palermo; along with great-grandchildren, Graham and Banks Kelly.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 18, at 1 p.m. at Cumming Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Barry Crocker officiating. Interment will follow at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday, Sept. 17, from 5-7:30 p.m.
