Marie Adelaide Burda Pirkle, 92, of Cumming went home to be with her heavenly Father Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012. She was born in Bellaire, Ohio, Aug. 1, 1920, to James and Mary Adelaide Burda. She retired from the federal government at Fort McPherson in 1980. The Pirkles moved to Lake Lanier where they enjoyed many years on the lake with their four children.
Marie loved her bridge friends. She was a charter member of Cumming Bridge Club. Marie was a charter member of Cumming Baptist Church and Chapel Sunday School class. She was a volunteer of our local hospital for 31 years.
She will be missed by her many friends at The Orchards, where she lived for the past six years. Marie was loved by all, especially her family, and never met a stranger. She stayed active and was full of life until the very end. Marie's unique personality will be remembered forever, her feistiness and strong will to overcome her health challenges.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Willis (Pirk) Pirkle; and her two sisters, Jean Burda and Alice Ray.
Marie is survived by her two brothers, Jim Burda and Dan Burda; children, Jeff and Divina Pirkle, Sandra and Jim Kave, Linda and Gary Voccio, Deby and Jim Bost; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 20, at 1 p.m. at the Cumming Baptist Church, with interment to follow in Sawnee View Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to Cumming Baptist Church building fund.
