Mary Evdokias Makris, 82, of Cumming passed away Sept. 13, 2010. Born in New York, she was preceded in death by her parents, George and Stella Evdokias; her husband, Steven Makris, in 1995; and her brothers, Alexander Evdokias and Gabriel Dukas.
Mary was presented with the Archangel Michael Award, from the Metropolis of the Greek Orthodox Church in Atlanta, for outstanding service in the community and the church. She was a member of the Philoptocos (Women's Church Guild), and a founding member of the Saints Raphael, Nicholas, and Irene Greek Orthodox Church.
She is survived by her loving partner, John Litsios of Cumming; son, Nicholas (Jennifer) Makris of Connecticut; daughter, Susan (Mark) Durfee of New Jersey; daughter, Alexis (Robert) Sulyma of Atlanta; sister, Grace Chihlas; four grandchildren, Benjamin, Andrew, Ryan, and Luke; sister-in-law, Angie Dukas; and her nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 17, at 10 a.m. at Sts. Raphael, Nicholas, and Irene Greek Orthodox Church in Cumming. Burial will follow at Sawnee View Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday, Sept. 16, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
