Richard Scott Payne, 54, of Cumming lost his battle with cancer July 14, 2013. Born in North Kansas City, Mo., he was preceded in death by his father, Warren Payne.
The family moved to Dunwoody when Richard was eight years old. For 30 years, Richard lived and worked in the Brookhaven area. He was a talented artist, painter, humorist, and photographer. Richard was a gentle person with a unique perspective and a love of animals. He especially loved the memory of his golden retriever, Maggie.
He is survived by his son, Thomas Payne of Canon; mother, Ann Payne of Cumming; brother, Kenny Payne of Cumming; brother, Gary Payne of Temecula, Calif.; sister and brother-in-law, Krista and Lon Fancher of Sandy Springs; former spouse, Cindy Payne of Sugar Hill; special friend, Chris Marren of Lawrenceville; nieces and nephews, Cameron, CarolAnn, Patrick, Eric, Rick; granddaughter, Ava Payne.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, July 18, at 3 p.m. at the McDonald and Son Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 2-3 p.m.
