Robert Smith Powell Sr., 68, of Norcross passed away Tuesday, June 22, 2010. Mr. Powell was a retired millwright at General Motors for 35 years. He was an avid poker player, pool player, and enjoyed many weekends on the lake. He served as a Private 1st Class in the Army for several years.
He is survived by his companion of 20 plus years, Jane Shoemaker; sons and daughters-in-law, Mark D. Black of Seminole, Fla., Robert Powell Jr. and Nola Powell of Bradenton Fla., Todd Welch and Tracy Welch of Chattanooga, Tenn.; daughter and son-in-law, Shanne McGowen and Marc McGowen of Forsyth; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Susan Powell of Rochester, N.Y.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, June 29, at noon at Sunset Memorial Gardens and Mausoleum in Cleveland, Tenn. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening, June 29, from 6-9 p.m. at Crowell Brothers Funeral Home in Norcross.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Legion Post 251, Duluth, GA.
