Feb 26, 1935 - May 26, 2017
Shirley Foster of Cumming passed away peacefully on May 26th, 2017. She was born in Lenoir, N.C. on February 26th 1935, and was the daughter of Edgar and Blanche Davis. Shirley met her future husband, Bob, in the 8th grade. They married after he graduated from college and would have celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on June 7, 2017. After graduating from high school, she worked as a secretary for Broyhill Furniture Company. She later worked seven years at Home Federal Saving and Loan in Greensboro as a Loan Insurance Coordinator. In 1977, she moved with her family to Stone Mountain and worked for 19 years with the DeKalb County School System as an Executive Secretary. Although she worked for 37 years, her most cherished job was being a mom. After retiring, she and Bob moved to Suwanee, Ga., where they became founding members of First Redeemer Church. Shirley loved to draw since childhood, but as an adult she began painting with oil and watercolors. She was proud of her paintings which filled her home and those of her sons. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Blanche Davis, twin sisters Monteen (Hoyle) and Kathleen (Suddreth) and sister Doris. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Bob; two sons, Jeff of Wellington, Fla., and Larry and his wife, Shirleen, of Cumming; grandchildren, Shawn and Joshua, and brother in-law Robert Suddreth of Hickory, N.C.
