Stephen A. Joyner, age 85, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011, in Cumming. Steve was raised in Valdosta, and was salutatorian of Valdosta High School's class of 1942. He was among the first male students to attend Valdosta State University.
Steve served as a Navy medic during World War II. He married Eleanor Tompkins in 1947. He had a successful career as a salesman, was an accomplished public speaker and served many years as a Baptist deacon.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor; son, Alec Joyner and wife Nancy; daughters, Loette Kump and husband Jim, Pam Avery and husband Kenneth; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held Sunday, March 6, at 4 p.m. at North Lanier Baptist Church with the Rev. Hutch Matteson and Chaplain Jack Kennington officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to service.
