Advantis Technologies mourns the loss of its president, Stephen M. D'Onfro, who died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2008, from complications resulting from cancer. He faced his illness as he did other aspects of his life: with courage, a positive attitude, equanimity and grace.
Born in Leominster, Mass., on Aug. 24, 1958, he graduated from Leominster High School in 1976 and Syracuse University in 1980 with a BS in Accounting. He earned his CPA in 1982. He worked for Touche Ross in New Jersey, Oregon and Australia and Price Waterhouse in Boston. Mr. D'Onfro joined Gary Chemical Corporation as CFO in 1987, which ultimately became part of Rockwood Holdings Inc. For the past 11 years, he served as President of Advantis Technologies Inc., the water technology business unit of Rockwood based in Alpharetta. Mr. D'Onfro was an effective executive, respected for his compassion and leadership abilities, as well as his business acumen.
Steve is survived by his wife of 23 years, Beth; and three daughters, Katherine, Jillian and Madeline of Westminster, Mass.
There will be a memorial service on his birthday, Aug 24, at the First Church Unitarian Universalist, 15 West Street, Leominster, MA.
A small memorial including local friends and employees was conducted on Aug. 18 at Advantis Technologies, 1400 Bluegrass Lakes Parkway, Alpharetta, GA 30004.
Cards sent to Advantis headquarters will be forwarded to Steve's family.
