Ann Echols of Cumming, formerly of Atlanta, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, from complications of back surgery. Ann was born on July 14, 1932, in Atlanta. She attended North Fulton High School and graduated in 1950. During her time in high school, she met her future husband and best friend for life, Ted Echols. They were inseparable and were married for 58 years.
Ann (Meme) loved her family. She was one of nine children and always took great pride in her brothers and sisters. She adored her parents so much that she gave them the credit as to why she was such a good parent. Ann's greatest joy in life was being a wonderful wife and a very caring and nurturing mother. Not only was she someone you could talk to, count on and depend upon, but she made your soul feel better. Ann worked several years for Sears department store and later went to work for Woodward Academy-North Campus where she retired in 2004.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Echols; her father, Homer Ottis Rary; mother, Elzie Florene Burnette Rary; brother, Homer Ottis Rary Jr.; sister, Evelyn Rebecca Jarvis.
Ann is survived by her son, Randy Echols (Belinda); daughter, Lynn Brown (Bruce) and her three grandchildren, Kristy Brown, Kerry Brown and Tess Echols; brothers, William Carlton Rary (Marion), James Benjamin Rary (Lyn); sisters, Doris Raford Landon, Frances Marie Bethea, Carole Burnette McCravy, Barbara Mae Gates (Vandy); a host of nieces, nephews and many loving friends.
"Mother, until we see you again, you will be so dearly missed but it gives us great comfort in knowing that you are now reunited with Ted." Love you forever.
Memorial services will be held Sunday, Nov. 1, at 2 p.m. at Johns Creek Baptist Church in Alpharetta.
