Walter Jay Scroggs, 80, of Cumming passed away on Sept. 13, 2009. Mr. Scroggs was a native of Hayesville, N.C., and moved to Georgia in 1952. He retired from Sears after 40 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Etna Scroggs; and brother, Robert Scroggs.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Dorothy Scroggs of Cumming; Gail (Mike) King of Cumming; sons, Greg (Jackie) Scroggs of Cumming, Gary (Amy) Scroggs of Monticello; grandchildren, Ryan King, Van Raymer, Allison Scroggs, Gabriel Scroggs, Garrett Scroggs, Sara King, Jack Scroggs, and Griffin Scroggs.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 16, in the McDonald and Son Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Chris Grinsted officiating. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. in Old Shooting Creek Cemetery in Hayesville, N.C. The family will receive friends Tuesday, Sept. 15, from 6-9 p.m., at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Van Raymer, Ryan King, Gabriel Scroggs, Glenn Slaton, Clifford Byers, and Everett Byers. Honorary pallbearers will be Allison Scroggs, Garrett Scroggs, Sara King, Jack Scroggs, and Griffin Scroggs. Condolences may be expressed online at www.mcdonaldandson.com.
