Wayne Bracken, age 88, of Mentor, Ohio, formerly of Cumming and Independence Kan., died Monday Nov. 10, 2014 at Emeritus of Newell Creek, Mentor, Ohio. He was born June 14, 1926 in Sycamore, Kan. and lived in Independence, Kan. until he enlisted in the US Navy in World War II.
Mr. Bracken was a National Accounts Manager for General Electric Co. for 26 years until his retirement in 1985.
Wayne immersed himself in research and genealogy of his family, he was able to trace them back to arrival on the Mayflower. He was a member of the Mayflower Society. He was a US Navy Veteran serving as a radio and radar man on SB2C Helldiver Bombers.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years Warren Bracken (nee Battle); children Lynne (Joseph) Mazeika of Mentor, Ohio, Phillip (Suzanne) Bracken of Jasper and Fredric Bracken of New York City, N.Y.; grandchildren Christopher (Katherine) Mazeika, Susan (Ken) Groenstein, Michelle and Craig (Shanna) Bracken; great-grandchildren Lillian, Jack, Taylor and Nathaniel; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding Wayne in death are his parents Frederick and Clara Bracken; sister Delores Thompson and brother Eldon Bracken.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday Nov. 15, at Brunner, Sanden, Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor, Ohio.
