Mr. Wiley Sutton Clifton, age 94, of Cumming passed away Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at his home, following a long illness. The son of the late Madison Levin and Harriett Sutton Clifton, he was born Dec. 31, 1917, in Atlanta.
Mr. Clifton was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in World War II as a First Sergeant in the 118th Field Artillery, 30th Division. He was retired from BellSouth and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cumming and the American Legion, Post 0307, and was a former member of the Forsyth County Lions Club and the Telephone Pioneers. Mr. Clifton was preceded in death by his wife, Jerry Otwell Clifton.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and Lee Fowler of Huntsville, Ala.; sons and daughters-in-law, David Wiley and Eileen Clifton of Conyers, Bill and Kathy Clifton of Gainesville; grandchildren, David Scott Fowler, William Mark Fowler, Steven Bradley Fowler, Michelle Lynn Clifton, Brian Matthew Clifton, William Andrew Clifton and Adam Charles Clifton; eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 14, at 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Cumming, with Dr. Bob Jolly officiating. Mr. Clifton's remains will be placed in state at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Sawnee View Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Ingram Funeral Home Friday, July 13, from 6-8 p.m.
