William Napier, age 85, passed away Dec. 30, 2014, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
He was born Jan. 21, 1930, in Columbia, Tenn., to the late William James Napier Sr. and Irene King Napier. He attended and graduated from Columbia Military Academy and University of Tennessee in Knoxville where he was president of Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He was in the ROTC at UT and upon graduating he received the rank of First Lieutenant in the United States Army. He was later stationed in Japan after WWII, serving in the Transportation Corp. Upon his return home he farmed and started in the insurance business as an underwriter with Tennessee Farm Bureau in Columbia and later worked and retired from Royal Insurance in Memphis and Nashville where he retired in 1995. Bill and his late wife Joyce moved to Corinth, Miss., in 2008 to be by family and friends. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Columbia Tenn., and Corinth where he was the oldest member. He was an active member and former deacon at First Presbyterian Church in Corinth, Bill loved the J.O.Y. group trips, helping with the "Buddy Bags" ministry and Men's Chapel Sundy School Class.
Preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joyce Jenkins Napier; sister, Katherine (John) Spruill.
He is survived by his son, William James Napier III his wife Beverly Hardin Napier of Corinth, Miss.; daughter, Betty Napier Robbins her husband James Alton Robbins Jr. of Cumming; grandchildren, William James Napier IV "Will", Brenley Hardin Napier, Alexandra Napier Robbins "Allie", James "Haden" Robbins, Lydia Grace Robbins; host of other family and friends. Honorary Coffee Group at Borrums.
Funeral services for William James Napier Jr. "Bill" are set for 2:30 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Don Elliott officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in the Henry Cemetery.
