Willie Holbert Roper, age 89, of Forsyth County passed away Dec. 31, 2010. Mr. Roper was a veteran of World War II and retired from Wilson's (Tyson). He was the eldest member of Pine Crest Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his infant son; parents, Doyle and Cleo Roper; brother, Egbert Roper; sisters, Peggy Barringtine, and Shirley Gurley.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Adell Roper; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Rachel Roper; daughter and son-in-law, Shelia and Tommy Carney; son and daughter-in-law, Vickey and Melody Roper; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ralph and Helen Roper, Eddy and Linda Roper, Marcus Roper, Garry Barringtine; sisters and brother-in-law, Inez and James Chadwick, Fairey Higgins, Mary Lou Roper; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bennie and Ruth Collins; five grandchildren, Terry Roper (Brandy), Benji Roper (Heidi), Kimberly Mizelle (Eugene), Kyle Carney, Haleigh Carney; six great-grandchildren, Mason and Emily Roper, Bailey and Anna Roper, Halle and Dominic Mizelle; a number of nieces and nephews; and caregiver, Carol Best.
Funeral services were held in the Chapel of Ingram Funeral Home Jan. 2 with the Rev. Carrel Pruitt, the Rev. Dan Henderson, and the Rev. Craig Richard officiating. Interment followed at Sawnee View Memorial Gardens.
