Mary Therese Koc, 72, of Cumming passed away April 13, 2014. Born in Grand Rapids, Mich., she was preceded in death by her parents, Gerard and Josephine Okhuysen; brother, Thomas Okhuysen.

Mary was a graduate of the Mercy Central School of Nursing in Grand Rapids and served in the U.S. Air Force at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida, and Tachikawa Air Base in Japan as a registered nurse. Afterward, she worked in several hospitals, most recently in a medical-surgical ward at the DeKalb Medical Center.
Her passion for the past several years revolved around sewing and quilting, and she was a member of the Piecemakers Quilt Guild. With her son recently serving on active duty in Afghanistan, she was also a strong supporter of the United Service Organizations (USO).
A caring and wonderful wife and proud mother, she is survived by her loving husband, Matthew Koc of Cumming; son, Christopher Koc of Acworth; sister, Louise Steffen of Holton, Mich.; brother, Joseph Okhuysen of Kalkaska, Mich.; sister, Madeleine Brown of San Diego, Calif.; brother, Christopher Okhuysen of Alpharetta; sister, Pauline Okhuysen of Ava, Mo.; brother, Peter Okhuysen of Portsmouth, N.H.; brother, Nicholas Okhuysen of London, England, UK.
A Memorial Mass will be held Wednesday, April 16, at 2 p.m. at St. Brendan the Navigator Catholic Church, with Msgr. Paul Fogarty officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations in Mary's name to the United Service Organizations (USO) at www.uso.org.
