A Memorial Mass for Evan William "Bill" Wood, 87, of Cumming, will be held Thursday, August 7, at 11 a.m. at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church in Dawsonville, with the Rev. Fr. Brian J. Higgins and the Rev. Mr. Ray Richardson officiating. Bill passed away Monday, July 14, 2014, at Embracing Hospice in Cumming.

Born May 15, 1927, in Cleveland, Ohio, he had lived in the Atlanta area for the past 40 years. He was a graduate of the former Willoughby Union High School in Willoughby, Ohio, and served in the United States Army. After his military service, he continued his education at The Carnegie Technical Institute where he earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering in 1951. He was also a member of Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church in Dawsonville.
Mr. Wood spent his entire career with Factory Mutual Insurance Company (now FM Global), retiring after more than 40 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lyn Kreger Wood in 1956; his second wife, Marilyn Malison Wood in 2013; and his parents, James E. and Carrie O. (Edmunds) Wood.
He is survived by his sister, Jeanne Wood (Ray) Babcock; nephew, Mitchell W. (Laurel) Babcock; nieces, Pamela W. (Al) Frances and Polly Sue (John) Poppy; great-nephews, Theodore F. "Ted" Babcock and Jonathan C. Poppy; and great-nieces, Corinne V. "Cori" Babcock and Jocelyn C. Poppy, all of Mentor, Ohio.
Private family interment will take place in Ohio at a later date.
