Public Invitation to Memorial Service for Evelyn Shimmin The public is invited to a service to remember and celebrate the life of Evelyn M. Shimmin. It will start at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 14, at the First Baptist Church, 16756 County Road 18, in Ft. Morgan. Evelyn was born Feb. 26, 1923, in Arthur County, Neb., to Orville D. and Lena (Kruger) Thompson and died on January 19, 2014. She married Robert Shimmin of Fort Morgan on April 20, 1947. She and Robert lived on a farm south of town on Main Street for 58 years until his passing in 2005. Evelyn began working as a nurse in the 1960's at the Ft. Morgan Community Hospital, and continued until she retired in 1988 after more than 25 years of service. As a nurse, Evelyn touched the lives of many people living in Morgan County. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church and the Hospital Auxiliary. Evelyn lived the last six years of her life at the Beehive in Fort Morgan. At this service, the family plans to commemorate Evelyn's life and would like others to remember and participate in sharing thoughts and telling their favorite "Evelyn stories." Friends who wish may make memorial donations to the First Baptist Church of Fort Morgan, or to the Hospital Auxiliary at the Colorado Plains Medical Center.
