James Eugene Reid, 66, of Fort Morgan, Colorado, was called home on January 21, 2014. Jim was born to George and Betty Reid in Sterling, CO, on June 28th, 1947, but spent the majority of his youth in SW Colorado and Farmington, NM, graduating from Farmington High School with the class of 1965. He and Yvonne Yunker eloped to Preston, Idaho, on February 6th, 1967 and the couple raised two fine boys, Russ and Brad. While balancing both caring for his growing family and his studies, Jim was able to graduate with honors from NMSU with a Bachelor in Agricultural Economics in 1972. He then accepted a position back in Sterling with Production Credit Association and through the years moved to Fort Morgan where he retired in 2000 with the title of manager/vice president of both the PCA and Farm Credit Services in that community.
Jim was very active in the Evening Optimist Club's charitable work and was elected president of that organization many times over. In his spare time, Jim spent countless hours fishing everywhere from the South Western United States to Canada and Alaska and it is doubtful if there is a body of water in Colorado or Wyoming that he hasn't tested at one time or another. When he wasn't fishing, he could be found at one of the local golf courses, usually in fierce competition with his Grandson Noah. Although a pretty good amateur rock hound and avid fisherman, his true passion was spending time with his pride and joy, Noah. Anybody, who has seen the two together over these past 15 years, can attest to their strong bond and kindred souls.
Jim leaves behind his wife of 47 years, Yvonne Reid of Fort Morgan, CO; his two sons, Russell Reid of Marquette, Michigan, and Bradley Reid, his wife, Shannon, and their son, Noah, all of Brush Colo. He also leaves behind his brother, Steve Reid and wife, Ellen, of Casper Wyo., brother, Dave Reid and wife, Dianne, of Hillsboro, Oregon, sister, Betty Rice of Athens, GA, and brother, George Reid of Bloomfield, NM; his Aunt Kathleen Michel of Palm Harbor, Florida; brother-in-law, Bill Yunker, wife, Sherry, and son, Chad, of Las Vegas, Nevada; ten nieces and nephews and countless cousins. Jim was preceded in death by both parents, George and Betty Reid of Farmington, NM.
Jim is in the care of Heer Mortuary, 225 E. Platte Ave, Fort Morgan, Colorado. Condolences can be left at www.heermortuary.com.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate Jim's life Monday the 27th, at 11 a.m. at Saint Helena Catholic Church, 917 W. 7th Ave., Fort Morgan, Colorado, followed by a noon luncheon with a private family internment scheduled later in the day. The family asks that in-lieu of flowers, a donation be made in Jim's honor to the Fort Morgan Evening Optimist Club.
