James Norton

James C. Norton passed into the arms of the Lord on April 24, 2014 at Hospice of Northern Colorado in Greeley. James was born on July 28, 1937 in La Cygne, Kansas, to James D. Norton and Doris Lee Norton. He graduated from La Cygne Rural High School in 1955. James served in United States Air Force from 1956 to 1964. He trained in the maintenance, storage and transportation of all types of munitions. He married Shirley A. Davis in 1958. They had four children, James T. Norton (wife, Vicki), Paul W. Norton, Cindy A. White (husband, Wally), and Tracy J. Norton, and an adopted daughter, Julie A. Norton. James later married Alice J. Stumpf on August 7, 1985. He has three stepchildren, Rob Carruth (wife, Judy), Kip Carruth and Mardy Fosdick (husband, Greg). He, also, has many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends. James came to Morgan County in April of 1979 with Johns Manville Company as project engineer at the Pawnee Power Plant. When the plant was completed, he stayed in Morgan County working at Sunset Manor, Ramada Inn and Carroll Oil Company before retiring. Prior to coming to Morgan County, he worked in the construction industry and in Alaska on the Trans-Alaska pipeline. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and the American Legion. James was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Doris Norton; a daughter, Tracy Norton; one son, Paul Norton; and two sisters, Susie Perkins and Linda Thomas. In accordance with the deceased wishes, a private memorial service will be held. Memorial gifts may be made to Hospice of Northern Colorado in honor of Jim.
