Orlando "Orie" Hill, 90, of Briggsdale, CO, passed away July 15, 2013 at Life Care Center in Greeley.
He was born to Hiram and Anna C. Hill of Briggsdale on March 10, 1923. Orie attended Salem and Briggsdale Schools. In 2003 he received his high school diploma from Briggsdale High School made possible by the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs and Colorado Association of School Boards.
Orie served in the 158th Infantry Regiment in World War II
in the Philippines for two years and was honorably discharged in 1946. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Luzon Combat and Infantry Badge, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Ribbons with two Bronze Stars
and WWII Victory Medal.
Orie served in many organizations including Pawnee and Briggsdale Grazing Association, Wiggins Telephone, Salem and New Raymer School Board, and Briggsdale Lions Club. He was a member of Briggsdale Congregational Church and served as trustee for 30 years and was a life member of VFW
Orie married Anna Miller in 1943. They farmed and ranched in Briggsdale all their married life of 70 years.
He is survived by his wife, Anna Hill; son, Robert "Bob" Hill; daughter, Patricia "Pat" and husband, Gayle Hoffman; grandsons, Brian Hill and wife, Amy, Jack Hoffman, Steven Hill and wife, Kristi; granddaughter, DeAnn Hoffman and husband, Rich; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Georgia Darr; sisters-in-law, Katie Mitzel and Lourene Miller; brother-in-law, Bob Graham; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at Adamson Chapel. Interment will be at 2:15 p.m. Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at Ft. Logan National Cemetery in Denver.
