William graduated from Hotchkiss High School in 1955. He took courses in electronics and attended Colorado State University in Fort Collins. He enlisted in the United States Army
in 1956 and was in the Army Aviation program for 3 years. He taught aircraft maintenance and was also a mechanic. He was honorably discharged in December of 1959. Some of the honors he received in the service were U.S. Army Sharpshooter, Good Conduct Medal and Expert Carbine Sharpshooter.
In his earlier years, he worked at Martin Marietta in the missile manufacturing section. He also worked as a mechanic, a ranch hand, a truck driver and an excavation contractor. William owned Bill's Excavating in Hotchkiss and Paonia from 1988 until he retired in 2006. He moved to Weldona in 2007.
Survivors include his wife, Uetiva of Weldona; two daughters, Debra Welsch and husband, Scott, and Lori Kinnison and husband, Casey, all of Fort Morgan; four brothers, Wallace "Ben" Pitt and wife, Pat, of Denver, John Pitt and wife, Shirley, of Paonia, Joseph Pitt of Hotchkiss, and Gary Pitt and wife, Barb, of Phoenix, AZ; two sisters, Patricia Emmons and husband, Gary, of Greeley and Virginia Peterson and husband, Dave, of Phoenix, AZ; four grandchildren, Kayleen Fiscus, Brenton and Kendra Kinnison, Ashley Kinnison and Tanner Kinnison, and one great-granddaughter, Dalilah Kinnison, all of Fort Morgan.
William was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be Monday, April 8, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Fort Morgan, CO. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens.
