Louis J. "Sonny" Lorenzini, passed away on November 11, 2013 at his home in Weldona. He was born the second of five children to Katie (Chiara) and Americo Lorenzini on March 29, 1925 in Weldona. Sonny lived his whole life in Weldona. He graduated from the Weldon Valley High School in 1944.|
He served in the Colorado National Guard in Morgan County and joined his father in the farming and trucking business, A.S. Lorenzini Trucking, after his graduation.
He married Maxine Snuggs on October 3, 1948 at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Weldona. They were married for 65 years and were blessed with four sons: Jim, Larry, Louie and Rick. Maxine and Sonny were life-long farmers and ranchers. They continued with the farming and trucking business. When they discontinued the trucking business, they continued to farm and ranch, raising sugarbeets, corn and feeding cattle.
Sonny served on the ASCS County Committee, was a long-time Weldon Valley 4-H leader and was on the FFA Advisory Board. He received the Great Western High 10 Sugarbeet Producer Award many times and the Watrous Pioneer Award in 2010.
Among his favorite activities were attending the cattle sales at the sale barns in Brush and attending and supporting the Morgan County Fair, sponsoring the Catch-it-Calf program. Attending the sporting and school events of his children, grand and great-grandchildren were highlights of his life. In his younger days, Sonny loved to fish the streams in the mountains of Colorado. He was a life-time supporter of the Weldon Valley School and St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
He is survived by wife, Maxine, and his four sons, Jim and Lula of Brush, Larry and Kathy, Louie, and Rick and Vivianne, all of Weldona; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Jamey and Monica Lorenzini, Alyssa, Kayden and Jayce, Jason and Aubrey Lorenzini, all of Fort Morgan, Lori and Zale Hughes, Taylor, Baylee and Riley of Greeley, Mandi and Matt Keating, Kaybree, Kaytlyn, Kyra and Keian of Fort Morgan, Chad and Katie Lorenzini, Americo, Tenleigh and Axel of Weldona, Joe Lorenzini of Denver and Missey and Nick Trim and Ryen of Severence; his sister, Lorene Gardetto of Steamboat Springs and his brother, Jack of Greeley.
Preceding Sonny in death were his parents, sister, Ethel "Babe" Arndt, and brother, Donny Lorenzini.
A Rosary Vigil will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Weldona on Sunday, November 17th, at 6 pm.
A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Helena's Catholic Church in Fort Morgan on Monday, November 18th, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Fort Morgan.
