Ruby E. Lumpkin, 86, passed away early Tuesday, August 13, 2013, at Bonell Good Samaritan Center in Greeley. She was born May 4, 1927, in Ravenna, NE, to Chris and Evangeline Vetter.
During World War II, Ruby worked as a telephone operator. She married Everett Lumpkin in Cheyenne, WY, on June 30, 1946. In 1952 the Lumpkin's moved to Brush. While living in Brush, the Lumpkin's owned and operated Softone Cleaners and later Lumpkin Flower Shop.
Following Everett's passing, Ruby moved to the Denver area to be closer to family and later to Greeley.
Survivors include one daughter, Karin Newman, and her husband, Dan, of Thornton, CO; 2 granddaughters, Bobbi Heitschmidt (Keven) of Vancouver, WA, and Buffi Elliott (Shawn) of Greeley; and 4 great-grandchildren, Dante and Claire Heitschmidt and Mandi and Maggi Miens. She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett, 1 son, Bob, 1 daughter, Sheryl, 1 grandson, Bradley, 1 sister and 1 brother.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, August 27, 2013, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Brush at 2:00 p.m. Inurnment will be in the Brush Memorial Cemetery. The Heer Mortuaries & Crematory are entrusted with the arrangements.
