Shirley Joyce Baker, 77, lifelong area resident, died Sunday, May 18, 2014 at the Sunset Manor in Brush.
She was born December 6, 1936 in Snyder to Henry Jr. & Elsie (Bernhardt) Becker. She graduated from high school in Snyder in 1955. Shirley married Lawrence James "Larry" Baker on August 18, 1956 in Raton, NM.
Shirley held many jobs throughout her life, working at the Empire Motel, Southside Grocery, and housesitting. She was also well known for her many years of cake decorating. She served as superintendent of Morgan County Fairgrounds for several years, and taught craft and cake decorating classes at the Morgan County Extension Office. She was a Brownies, Missionette, and 4-H leader for many years, and she continued to be active in the county fair. Shirley also enjoyed crocheting, needlework, traveling, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Ron Baker of Calhan, Kurt Baker of Brush, Brenda Minne (and Gailen) of Dannebrog, NE, Kathy Cashatt (and Dan) of Papillion, NE, and Jerry Baker of Dalhart, TX; her sister, Georgia Starbuck of Evans; her brothers, Gary Becker of Merino, Dave Becker of Wiggins, and Mark (and Pat) Becker of Greeley. Shirley is also survived by her grandchildren, Travis Minne (and Jennifer) of Brush, and Jessica Wampler (and Brandon) of Lochbuie, Samantha Minne of Grand Island, NE, and Casey (and Jennifer) Baker of Sarcoxie, MO, nine great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Shirley was preceded in death her parents, her husband; her infant sister, Peggy Becker; and her brother, Henry Becker III.
Funeral services will at 10:00 AM on Thursday, May 22nd at the Heer Mortuary Chapel in Brush. Interment will follow in the Brush Memorial Cemetery.
