Shirley passed away on February 2, 2014 at East Morgan County Hospital after a brief illness.
Shirley was born October 2, 1930 to Raymond and Bessie (Wilcox) Peed at the Slocum Maternity Hospital, 514 Carson Street, Brush, CO. The attending physician was L. E. Hillman, D. O. and R. N. Elsie Stuart. Shirley joined siblings Howard D. Peed and Dean R. Peed. In 1944, a sister, Karen Ann, joined the family circle.
Shirley began her formal education at Central School in Brush, also attending schools in Wilder, Idaho, and Nyssa, Oregon, before graduating from Wheat Ridge High School in 1948. She was Salutatorian of her class.
In 1948, Shirley and her family moved to a 480-acre farm south of Brush. In 1950, Shirley began her first job at the Rickhoff Insurance Agency and John E. Bell, Attorney at Law in Brush.
On May 10, 1953, Shirley married Larry Ainslie at the Brush United Methodist Church. They settled in Brush where Shirley continued her employment with John Bell. On February 17, 1957, a son, Mike was born at the Eben Ezer Hospital in Brush and on August 9, 1960, a daughter, Lynne, was born at St. Anthony's Central Hospital, the attending physician being Dr. C. Roberts, a former doctor of the Brush area.
On November 4, 1957, the family moved to the Denver area. Larry began work at Public Service Company of Colorado and remained there for 29 years. In 1968, Shirley went to work for Adams County School District #12 part time and four years later began full-time employment of six years at Adams County School District #1 at York Junior High in Thornton. In 1986, Larry received early retirement from Public Service. They moved back to Brush and have lived in their present home for 27 years.
Shirley and Larry celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary with a tour of the British Isles in May 1978.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Brush, former leader of the Friendly Circle Breakfast Club, member of the East Morgan County Hospital Auxiliary and member of the Brush Area Museum and Cultural Center. She enjoyed playing bridge and gardening.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, both brothers and her sister. She is survived by her husband, Larry; son, Mike; daughter-in-law, Mary; granddaughter, Katie; daughter, Lynne; sister-in-law, Dorothy Peed, four nieces and one nephew.
A private graveside ceremony will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 7, at the Brush Memorial Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to Brush United Methodist Church.
