Vernon ""Bud"" Headley Obituary
Vernon "Bud" Headley, 84, of Brush, passed away Sunday, December 1, 2013, at the East Morgan County Hospital in Brush. He was born May 29, 1929, on the family ranch near Pawnee Pass in Stoneham - Willard, CO, area, to Amos Edgar and Grace Maude (Evans) Headley.
Bud grew up in Stoneham-Willard, Snyder and Hillrose communities, striking out on his own at a very young age. After bouncing around testing out job opportunities and finding adventures, he joined the U.S. Navy in January, 1951. Bud served aboard the U.S.S. Corregidor along with his brother, Galen, until being honorably discharged in October, 1954. He was proud to be a veteran of the Korean War. Upon returning home from his military service, Bud ran a gas station in Sterling before beginning a long career in the oilfield and had many stories to share about the DJ Basin.
He married Marvis Ann Kirby in the spring of 1956. They set up their home in Fort Morgan for a few years, then returned to bachelorhood in Brush for many years while working in the oilfield and later owning and operating his own lawn service business. Bud moved to Bluff, UT, in 1996 where he enjoyed retirement before returning to Brush in September, 2012 for health reasons.
Bud was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3551 and the Moose Lodge.
He is survived by his son, Lonnie Headley of Laporte, CO; brother, Galen Headley of Bluff, UT, and stepsister, Carol (Don) McIsaac of Rye, CO; nephews and nieces as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Amos Edgar and Grace Maude Headley; sisters, Bessie Finley, Molly Pennington, Irmalee Pennington, Fern (Jerre) Gaisford; and brothers, Leslie Headley and Elver Dean Headley.
Bud requested a Celebration of Life gathering to be held in lieu of a funeral service. Please join the Headley family at the Hillrose Town Hall, 315-B Emerson Street, in Hillrose for a meal and an afternoon of remembrance on Sunday, December 22, 2013, at 12 p.m. A private inurnment will be held at a later date at the Prairie View Cemetery in Stoneham, CO. The Heer Mortuary & Crematory was entrusted with the cremation arrangements.
