Joseph C. Appelhans Obituary
Joseph C. Appelhans, 88, life resident of Logan & Morgan Counties, passed away Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at the Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center in Brush. He was born August 11, 1926, in Sterling, CO, to Pius & Molly Appelhans. The Appelhans family immigrated to the United States from Russia, arriving February 22, 1914. The family settled in Logan County and began working on farms in the area. Prior to retirement, Joe farmed for over 30 years. He later worked in maintenance at the First Security Bank in Brush, East Morgan County Library and Brush City Hall. He also worked in maintenance and security for the Brush Livestock of Colorado and Livestock Exchange. Joe loved working. He always enjoyed having a garden. His favorite past time was spending time with his family. Joe was a member of the Catholic Church. He actively served and worked for the church in many ways. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Late in life, Joe accepted the Lord as his personal savior and is now spending eternity in heaven with his Savior. Survivors include his two daughters, Jolene Simon, her husband Todd, and Jan Ford and her husband Doug all of Brush; 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 10 brothers & sisters and his parents. A memorial service will be held Monday, August 25, 2014, at 10:30 AM at the Platte Valley Baptist Church, 708 Warner Street in Fort Morgan. Inurnment will follow in Memory Gardens. The Heer Mortuary is entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
