I was just thinking about how lucky my family was to have such unseasonably warm weather over the past two days. I then realized luck had nothing to do with it, and it was no coincidence. It was Dad once again taking great care of his family, making sure we were all warm and comfortable during our time of mourning. Well played Dad, well played. Once again you showed us that you will do whatever it takes to make sure your family is safe and sound.

Dad, you took great care of us, but you and Mom also taught us the skills necessary to take care of ourselves. We will all continue to build on your teachings to make you both even more proud.

Now Dad, take a break. You've earned it. You have worked hard all your life, but we've got it from here. But, knowing you as well as we do, we know that you and Uncle Butch have already made improvements in heaven. You always put your personal touch on everything you were involved with.

Even though you have physically left us, we know that you will always be near. You left us several reminders of your love and grace, and we will forever thank you for them. Please give our family and friends that departed before us a big ol' Dirty Ernie hug. May you and KC play long and hard together. Love you Dad!!

I'm going to miss Grandpa Gene so much. We had a special bond that allowed us to talk about food, wine, Hoosier basketball, design and coffee for hours. I always knew he would have an answer for the questions we had about our house and even though we live all the way in Washington we made sure to take pictures inside and out so he could see every inch of the house we bought.  His knowledge and what he taught my family will be cherished forever.

"We do not inherit the world from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children. Duty on us to return it to them in the absolute situation"

"The Day God Called You Home"
God looked around his Garden and found an empty place.
He then looked down upon his earth and saw your loving face.
He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest.
His Garden must be beautiful, he always takes the best.
He knew that you were suffering, he knew you were in pain.
And knew that you would never get well on earth again.
He saw your path was difficult, he closed your tired eyes,
He whispered to you "Peace be Thine" and gave you wings to fly.
When we saw you sleeping so calm and free of pain,
We would not wish you back to earth to suffer once again.
You've left us precious memories, your love will be our guide,
You live on through your children, you're always by our side.
It broke our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone.
For part of us went with you on the day God called you home

I certainly hope Louie has those gates painted by the time you get up there...

"Tell me, and I'll forget. Show me, and I may not remember. Involve me, and I'll understand."

Thank you Gene

Prayers for the family, so saddened by your loss. Gene was probably the smartest man I have ever known, next to my own father. He was very much missed and respected after his retirement. Glad he was able to enjoy some of it.

Gene will surely be missed by a lot of people. He was such a talented man in the carpentry trade and all of his knowledge in that field amazed us all. I know even though he didn't get around the island much he will be missed.

My Uncle Gene. My Dad's younger brother. This is one of the of the smartest men I ever knew. I am sorry I will not be able to attend his celebration of life. It is my distance that prevents this, my being located in Alaska. My thoughts are with my Aunt Carolynn and my cousins Sheree, Teresa, Mark, and Chris. I have many good memories of this guy. He had a smile in his eyes. He was a patient man much like my father Jim. He was so talented as a builder, a thinker, an artist, a designer, a Master Mason, a master of tools. We never knew exactly where he got those talents. He would undertake projects that others may be reluctant to do or even attempt. His contributions are many, and he will leave behind many of his own personal landmarks. He will also leave behind many fond memories with his entire family. I have several Uncle Gene stories I still share with friends. This guy amazed me with his artistic talents and ability to build and make things happen. When the job was "done" Gene would put a cherry on top. Always some kind of a signature. His coolness and patience is something I have always admired. Uncle Gene was a good provider for his family and a great father and teacher to them as well as a good husband to my Aunt Carolynn. He leaves behind an immediate family that I am really proud to call my cousins. They are all successful and kind. Uncle Gene taught them well and Aunt Carolynn emphasized the message I'm sure. Each day when I sign my name, I always have thoughts about Uncle Gene since I carry with me his name. So, today, we say goodbye, and Salute to you Uncle Gene. Ya done good. We are all so proud of you. "signed" Your Nephew....Robert Gene Lowden
