ALMETTA GREEN

ALMETTA GREEN, 91, of Churubusco, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, at her home. Born in Grant County, she graduated from Van Buren High School in 1939, and had lived in Smith Township since 1949. She assisted her husband in the operation of the family farm, worked for 11 years at Swoverland Shoe Store in Churubusco, and later worked as an instructional assistant at Smith Green Community Schools for seven years. She was a member of Churubusco United Methodist Church, its United Methodist Women, and was past worthy matron of Churubusco O.E.S. 136. "A dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother, she cherished her family and enjoyed cooking, entertaining, playing the piano, and singing." Surviving are her children, William R. (Linda) Green of Churubusco, Robert B. (Dianne) Green of LaOtto, and Jack L. Green and Barbara (Kerry) Boggs, both of Churubusco; 12 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John W. "Bill" Green in 2010; her brothers, Hobart, Robert, and Harold Nelson; daughter-in-law, Nancy (Schenher) Green; granddaughter, Leslie Green; and great-granddaughter, Frances Smith. Service is 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 7, 2012 at Churubusco United Methodist Church, with calling one hour prior. Pastor Corinne Boruff-Stucker, officiating. Calling also from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012 at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Churubusco. Burial in Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam.
