BRUCE E. BAIDEN

BRUCE E. BAIDEN, of St. Petersburg, Fla., formerly of Fort Wayne, passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at his home. Born July 28, 1926, in Gary, Ind., he was a son of Jessie and Edgar Baiden. He graduated from Whiting High School and entered the Army Air Corps. Following World War II, Bruce attended DePauw University where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity and met his wife of 64 years, Gloria Plasket. Bruce and Gloria owned and operated Brunnel Products, Inc., Fort Wayne and St. Petersburg, Fla. He was an expert sailor and raced Lightning Class sailboats as a member and former commodore of the Wawasee Yacht Club. One of the highlights of his sailing career was skippering 12-meter boats in the annual Chicago-Mackinac race on Lake Michigan. He also obtained his pilot's license and enjoyed flying his plane, woodworking in his shop, and growing roses. He loved following Indiana University basketball and the Tampa Bay Rays. He is survived by his wife, Gloria; daughters, Kathy (Gary) Clark, Laurie (Gary) Bumb and Julie (Andy) VanDerPlaats; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; and sister, Charlene Bewley.
