BUTCH WHITTINGTON, 69, passed away peacefully Monday, April 8, 2013, at his home in Auburn. Born Aug. 26, 1943, in Auburn, he was a son of Paul and Carol (Gerig) Whitt-ington. As a young boy, he had a beloved horse named Pepper. He and Pepper won several area horse show competitions and also took first place at the Indiana State Fair. He worked as a technician for AT & T for 45 years, retiring in 2005. He was a member of the County Line Church of God in rural Auburn. Butch was a member and Past Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge #1978 in Auburn where he was awarded Elk of the Year. He was a former member of the board of directors for R.I.S.E. Inc. in Angola and the Greenhurst Country Club in Auburn. He was an avid golfer, reader, and also enjoyed many fishing trips to a family cabin with his friends. After retirement, he enjoyed going to the Bridgewater Golf Club daily to play cribbage with his friends,and would then make the journey to the Elks Lodge in Auburn to enjoy happy hour and good fellowship. Surviving are his wife, Sheryl Whittington of Auburn; two daughters, Tracy E. (Rex) Pepple of Waterloo, and Kristen D. (Gary) Rhoton of Montpelier; four grandchildren, Craig (Canden) Pepple, Eric (Torree) Pepple, Megan Rhoton, and Rachel Rhoton; one great-grandchild, Addison Pepple; a brother, Darryl (Susan) Whittington of Waterloo; and a sister, Deena (Roger) Johnson of Garrett. An Elks memorial service and celebration of Butch's life is 4 p.m. Saturday, April 13, 2013, at Elks Lodge #1978, 311 E. Ninth St., Auburn, and all family and friends are welcome.
