EUGENE LEWIS DOCTOR


EUGENE LEWIS DOCTOR, 88, died on Thursday, June 5, 2014, at his residence. Born June 20, 1925, in Decatur, he was a son of the late Arthur H. Doctor and Ella M. (Kleine) Doctor. He attended Hoagland High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II and was a guard at the Nuremberg trials. He married Betty Marie Coomer on May 19, 1945 at Woodburn Lutheran Church. Eugene was the owner and operator of Doctor Trucking of Fort Wayne for many years and he also hauled milk. In the 1950's, the family moved to Florida for two years while Eugene was employed to help build the Daytona Speedway. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church-Soest on Wayne Trace and the American Legion Post 296 of Fort Wayne. Survivors include his wife, Betty Doctor; sons, Eugene (Jackie) Doctor and Douglas Doctor; daughters, Becky (Dan) Greenwood, Debra (Martin) Wenzel-Hagerfield and Gina (Brian) Kiess, all of Fort Wayne; son, Gregory (Celena) Doctor of Stuart, Fla.; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Marlin (Mildred) Doctor of Huntington; and sister, Eileen (Dan) Spieth of Fort Wayne. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Maxine Gross. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Monday, June 9, 2014, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church-Soest, 9909 Wayne Trace, Fort Wayne, with visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. Visitation also from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 8, 2014, at the church. Burial with military honors at Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, preferred memorials may be made to Emmanuel Lutheran Church-Soest or Parkview Hospice.
