GENE L. SMITH

GENE L. SMITH, 82, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, at his home. Born in New Marsh field, Ohio, he was a Korean War Air Force veteran. He was a tool & die maker with Industra Products and Machine Rebuilders for many years before retiring in 1995. He was a member of McMillen Park Lions Club, St. Luke's Lutheran Church for 40 years, and Faith Lutheran Church. He was an avid woodworker and carver, who enjoyed spending time with his carving group. He enjoyed fixing antique clocks and going to his friend's lake cottage, but most of all he loved spending time with his cherished family. Surviving are his loving wife of 58 years, Janice Smith of Fort Wayne; daughter, Kathryn Smith of Indianapolis; son, Steven (Carol) Smith of Canfield, Ohio; and grandchildren, Jana (Bryan) Hambley, Mary Miller, Anna and Hayden Smith. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Dent Dailey, Rolland, Jack, and Jerry Smith. Service is 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at Faith Lutheran Church ELCA, 1700 E. Pettit Ave., with calling from 1 to 3 p.m. The Rev. Richard Hartman officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church, Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana, or Lutheran Hospital's Heart Unit.
