GLORIA D. DEETZ

GLORIA D. DEETZ, 87, of rural Waterloo, died on Monday Feb. 11, 2013, at her home. Born Jan. 19, 1926, in Kendall ville, she was a daughter of the late Dallas and Talitha (Gehring) Fiandt. She graduated from Kendallville High School in 1944. She married Oscar Monroe Deetz on June 3, 1945; he passed away on June 23, 2008. "Gloria was a devoted wife and mother, passionate about family and her time with them." Gloria was an active church member, first with the Wayne Center United Methodist Church and more recently as a member of Auburn First United Methodist Church where she was a member of the First United Methodist Church Women's Club. She was also a member of the Fairfield Friendship Club, Cedar Creek Women's Club, Help & Be Helped Club, and the O.W.L.S. Club. She enjoyed reading, especially CS Lewis, and traveling. She also loved to cook, and was always interested in trying new recipes. Surviving are three sons and a daughter, David (Pat) Deetz of Oakbrook Terrace, Ill., Stan Deetz of Boulder, Colo., Randy Deetz of Waterloo, and Lisa (Jeff) Leiter of Auburn; eight grandchildren, David Deetz, Jason Deetz, Carl Deetz, Ingrid Deetz-McMurray, Zander Deetz, Roger Deetz, Logan Leiter, and Abigail Leiter; a step-granddaughter, Jessica Mehooves; six great-grandchild ren; two brothers, Max (Joy) Fiandt of Goshen and Bill (Bev) Fiandt of Greenwood; sister, Pat (Chuck) Fawley of Fort Wayne; and a sister-in-law, Margaret of Baton Rouge, La. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy Deetz; a granddaughter, Olivia Deetz; and a brother, Dallas "Jake" Fiandt. Service is 11 a.m. Friday at Feller & Clark Funeral Home, 1860 S. Center St., Auburn, with visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. The Rev. Ted Jansen officiating. Visitation also from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
