GLORIA JUNE (DEAL) EMMERT

GLORIA JUNE EMMERT (DEAL), 86, of North Fort Myers, Fla., died peacefully at Hope Hospice unexpectedly. She graduated from South Side High School in 1944, and she made Florida her home after retiring from the East Allen County School System as the Secretary/Treasurer. She was the wife of the late John Emmert, the late Glen Milholland and the late John Sterling. She was born June 7, 1926 in Fort Wayne, a daughter of George Deal and Dorothy Deal (Shannon). She lived in Fort Wayne before moving to North Fort Myers, Fla. in 1982. Gloria's love was tap dancing which her mother introduced her to at age seven. She formed a local dance troupe called, "The Steps in Time", and entertained the area for many years. She loved sailing with late husband John Emmert, and became the first female Commodore of the Old Bridge Village Yacht Club. She was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church in Fort Myers, Fla., and an active Deacon of the church until her illness. She is survived by her sister, Donna Haines of Fort Wayne; a daughter, Lisa Sterling of Grand Island, Neb.; a son, Michael Sterling of North Fort Myers, Fla.; and step daughters, Carol Candice Schorpp, Judith Buclkey and Kathleen Emmert; seven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and the many close friends in Old Bridge Village and the surrounding area. She was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Deal; and sister, Joyce Billings. Funeral service is 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, 2012 at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 6600 Covington Rd., Fort Wayne, the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
