HENRY GEARY MENZE, 90, went to join The Lord surrounded by his family on Saturday, June 22, 2013. Born Sept. 19, 1922, in Fort Wayne, he was a retired teacher from the Fort Wayne Community Schools where he taught for 34 years. Geary was a World War II Navy veteran (Pharmacist's Mate) who participated in both the invasions of Iwo Jima and Okinawa aboard the U.S.S. Leo. He loved spending time with his two grandsons and at his cottage on Sylvan Lake. Geary was a great father and grandfather. He played the violin and played in the Philharmonic when he was very young. Geary loved playing Euchre with his family and friends, and was an avid I.U. and Cubs fan among others. He was a member of North Christian Church. Survivors include his daughter, Catherine Lynn Menze of Fort Wayne; son, Geary Lee (Debbie) Menze of Fort Wayne; and two grandsons, Matthew Menze and Joseph Menze, both of Fort Wayne. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Catherine E. Menze (whom he met in Brooklyn, N.Y. while in the Navy); and sister, Marion Leiter. Service is 10 a.m. Friday, June 28, 2013, at D.O. McComb & Sons Maplewood Park Funeral Home, 4017 Maplecrest Road, with calling one hour prior. The Rev. Kate Terlep officiating. Calling also from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 27, 2013, at the funeral home. Entombment in Concordia Cemetery Gardens. Memorials may be made to North Christian Church.
