IRENE (GABERSEK) FREISTROFFER, 91, passed away on Friday, Feb. 22, 2013. Irene retired from the Fort Wayne Street Department. She also worked for the Chancery Office and was a volunteer at St. Joseph Hospital for many years. She enjoyed her close knit family, movies, and playing cards. "She was loved by all and leaves behind a great many friends. "Mama Fry" was a woman of great faith and a wonderful role model. She taught her entire family what it meant to be honest and trustworthy, to be humble, and generous and to care and love others." Surviving are her children, Mary (Steve) Keefer, Hank Freistroffer, Tom (Beth) Freistroffer, Fry (Jimmie) Schindler, Laura (Bob) Sweigert, Donna Brooke, John (Lori) Freistroffer, Joe (Cathy) Freistroffer all of Fort Wayne; 24 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry D. Sr. in 1979; and grandson, John Brooke II in 2010. Mass of Christian burial is 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013 at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior at the church.
