J. BRUCE SMITH, 76, of Columbus, Mont., passed away peacefully on his birthday Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012. "He was a much loved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, dear friend, and mentor." He had bravely confronted and fought cancer. He was born in Lafayette, Ind. He resided in Fort Wayne until he retired in 1998 when he moved to Columbus, Mont. He graduated in 1958 from his beloved Purdue University
from the School of Management. He was a lifetime member of the Purdue Alumni Association. Bruce's extensive career began as a customer service representative with Commercial Credit Corp. in West Lafayette. In 1967, he accepted a position with Indiana Bank and 31 years later, he retired from Summit Bank as Senior Vice President. He had the ability to bring laughter into every situation. This combined with his genuine personality and integrity made him a true friend to many and a leader throughout his career. He was preceded in death by his former wife, Shirley and wife, Betty. He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Musick of Sarasota, Fla.; son, Tom Smith of Sarasota, Fla.; daughter, Pam Brieul of Sarasota, Fla.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
