JOHN DAVID GRAY, 76, formerly of Avilla, peacefully passed away in his home following a short illness in Buckeye, Ariz. on Monday, Jan. 7, 2013. He was born on March 17, 1936 in Tennessee the son of John L. Gray and Lula Mae Smith Gray (Hood). He attended Union Chapel Church in Fort Wayne. John was a self-made man and founded and co-owned Roofing Products International, a rubber manufacturing company in Wawaka, Ind.; Pemco Adhesives Inc., Auburn, Ind.; and American Building Supply Co., Fort Wayne. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, M. Patricia (Closson) Gray of Buckeye, Ariz.; two daughters, Joyce (Craig) Amacker of Naples, Fla. and Michelle (Vernon) Smith of Tucson, Ariz.; grandchildren, Erik Amacker of Naples, Fla., Marissa Letz of Goodyear, Ariz., Krista, Marianna, Miranda and Khristian Letz of Tucson, Ariz.; three brothers, Verlin (Bonnie) Gray of Fort Wayne, Jay Hood of Liberty Center, Ind., and William Hood of Fort Wayne; two sisters, Dallie Snyder of Garrett, and Deborah (Kenneth) Spillers of Fort Wayne. Preceding John in death were a brother, Finley (Pam) Hood; and sisters, Nellie Worrell, Mary Jane Torres, and Corinna Gray. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013 at Union Chapel Church, 12628 Coldwater Rd., Fort Wayne. Pastor Gary Reiber officiating. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, 2013 at the church. Interment will follow at the Huntertown Cemetery.
